What is the role?
Michaels Energy is a $22M firm entering the next stage of growth. The goal for this position is clear: build a disciplined, scalable delivery engine capable of supporting $50M+ in service revenue without operational disorder. The Vice President of Delivery holds full portfolio P&L accountability and leads a multi-layer organization across engineering and three profit centers: Programs, Research & Evaluation, and Energy Solutions. This leader will build the operating system required to scale — installing standardized delivery models, performance dashboards, capacity planning discipline, and margin accountability across the organization. This position will report to the COO and serve on the executive leadership team. The ideal candidate is a battle-tested delivery executive who has already owned and scaled a $50 million+ service portfolio and is ready to industrialize operations for the next stage of growth.
Portfolio P&L Accountability
- Own gross and contribution margin performance across all delivery units.
- Forecast revenue within tight tolerances.
- Control cost structure (labor, subcontractors, travel, overhead).
- Evaluate contract risk allocation, including performance-based (P4P) agreements.
- Align growth with margin protection.
Industrialize Delivery
- Standardize delivery models across utilities and service lines.
- Implement portfolio-level dashboards tracking margin, utilization, and contract performance.
- Reduce operational variance across programs and project managers.
- Install accountability rhythms across Directors and Managers.
Design a Scalable Organization
- Build and refine a multi-layer leadership structure.
- Develop succession pipelines and bench strength.
- Address personnel issues when performance lags.
- Align compensation and performance management with margin and growth goals.
- Design and implement a capacity planning model aligned with $50M+ growth targets.
Executive Leadership & Growth Alignment
- Represent delivery performance at the executive level with clear financial reporting.
- Partner with Business Development to ensure pricing, scope, and delivery realities align.
- Make disciplined bid/no-bid decisions.
- Ensure operational readiness supports strategic growth.

Requirements
What qualifications are we looking for?
- Demonstrated full P&L ownership of a $50M+ service portfolio.
- Master’s degree preferred; equivalent operational experience strongly valued.
- Fifteen years of experience in energy efficiency, utility implementation, or a similar service-based industry.
- Experience with leading an operations team of 50+ staff members.
- Experience with multi-state or multi-client portfolios.
- Proven ability to scale operations in high-growth environments.
- Ability to travel up to 25% for client meetings, conferences, and internal meetings.

Pay Scale
$200,000 – $225,000 base salary + performance bonus incentive
